Privacy Policy

Who we are

Our website address is: https://sciencetoymaker.org

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Summary

We do not sell or otherwise share data with anybody. However, we depend on third-party services (embedded YouTube videos, Google Analytics, PayPal) that have their own policies.

Media

If you send us images to upload to our website, you should avoid images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

We occasionally use Google Analytics (GA) to find out:

  • How many people are visiting sciencetoymaker.org
  • Which pages people are visiting
  • Where visitors are from. (GA doesn’t show your name or street address. The name of the city where you were when you used your devise to visit our website is the closest to your physical location it shows. GA also track IP address, but we don’t pay much attention to it.)

Here is Google Analytics’ privacy policy page. You can download an add-on here to stop Google Analytics from collecting your data.

Comments

Originally, we thought it would be a good idea to let people post comments. But because of the sheer amount of spam, we have tried to disable all comment sections on our website. However, sciencetoymaker.org has hundreds of pages and it is possible that we missed some. So, to comply with EU requirements, much of the following is about comments data, even though we have done our best to disable them.

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Cookies

We have tried to disable comments, but if you were to leave a comment on our site you could opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. WordPress sets it up this way for convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Who we share your data with

We don’t share your data, but we use Google Analytics, PayPal, embed YouTube videos etc., and they have their own privacy policy.

How long we retain your data

Although we have tried to disable comments, if you were to leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. WordPress sets it up this way so webmasters can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

We use Redirection plug-in which tracks 404 error. It shows user’s IP address, and from which website the user was linked and to which page redirected.

Your contact information

For those who provided us with your contact information: we don’t sell or give away the information. We use the information only when we need to contact you or send packages to you. For those who use PayPal to buy our products, here is PayPal’s privacy policy.

Additional information

We use WordPress, and it is stated here that it is GDPR Compliant.
